As Darrin Sees It
Why?
By Darrin Widick
As the father of two young daughters (who luckily take after their mother), I'm often asked the question, "Why?" Things like, Why do I have to take a bath just because I played in the mud? And, Why did the chicken cross the road? And, Why can Santa get down the chimney but bad guys can't? Etc.
Usually I have an answer. Or if all else fails, I can at least say, "Because I said so." But I also have some questions myself, for which I have no answers. Like
- Who bought the first fax machine? And why?
- Why is there a billboard down the road from my office for an upcoming psychic fair? Wouldn't they all know when and where it was?
- Why do we drive on parkways and park on driveways?
- If out of site is out of mind, why does absence make the heart grow fonder?
- Why does my bank's drive-up ATM have braille on the keypad?
- Why did Colorado get 5 downs against Mizzou, and still get a touchdown when he didn't cross the goal line on 5th down? Why did Tyus Edney go the length of the floor in 4.8 seconds? Why did Nebraska's receiver kick the ball to himself with 0 seconds on the clock? Why did Oklahoma score on a fake field goal? Why didn't MU go for 2 against Colorado?
